De-essing

So...I have my own tricks that I use...but I think it would be beneficial to all if we discussed this.

What do you do about other sibilance, other than s's? What about overpowering d's and t's?

What is your method for taming the high end of vocals, and still keeping the breathyness and subtle detail? (And don't say "de-ess and then crank the high end".......)

You might try multiband compression. The last time I used it, I really thought about why I wanted it, took my time to set it up properly and it really helped...

But don't forget I'm a compression addict :D

BTW: Someone ever used sidechained multiband compression for this purpose?

I'll use a de-essing plug in surgicly by highlighting the offending sss, not the entire track. Same with P pops except I'll use either a compressor or a new discovery, the clipped peak plug from SoundForge. I expand out the offender and highlight the pop and hit it with the clipped peak tool and hammer it down. Any other dynamics problems I try to take care of with a volume envelope.
