Data transfer to PC

Why is it so damn hard to transfer data from the Amiga to the PC?

I use the C64 for some of my music because of its SID. It's so nice to port my programs and files to the PC for safety/emulator use and also to be able to download the old sequencers and synth' software from the 'net and use 'em on the original machines.

Using a DOS program on the PC and a special serial cable plugged into the Commodore external disk drive, the process is so easy. But despite the fact that the Amiga uses a 'standard' PC floppy disk drive as well as sporting connections common to the PC, why does nothing work?

I have used Ami-PC with the serial connection, plus CF using Compact Flash cards in the PCMCIA socket. The PC and Amiga are invisible to each other with the first one and the adapter just doesn't show up using the second.

Why can't somebody write a bit of software to override the PC's floppy disk controller, allowing me to access the Amiga disks? Indeed, similar was possible with the C64 for some fastloaders, so why not here?
