cutting bleeds and sustain on cymbals/toms

So i have a problem with cymbals bleeding constantly and toms sustaining for too long.

i have an idea to use an unconventional compression scheme, please leave some feedback:

extremely low threshold

high ratio: 5-8:1

Very slow attack speed

very slow release



i know its weird, but i think it should work because since the attack speed is very low, i should still get the main chunk of the cymbal and tom hit.

Is the problem cymbals bleeding into the tom tracks? If so, you want to use gates, not compressors.
