Cubase on laptop

Hi everyone. I'm in the process of updating my home studio and decided to base it around my notebook (Sony Vaio NR11Z) instead of paying for a new pc.

I use it alongside an Alesis Multimix 12 Firewire.

It wasn't running very well, so I looked into the system reqs for Cubase (currently LE -looking to upgrade to Essentaial or Studio 4 soon).

I realised that the hard drive is really too slow, and Steinberg recommend using an external drive running at 7200RPM via Firewire or USB2.0 - I have a drive that does this.

However, its not helped much. Is there something I have to do? For example should Cubase be running on the external drive rather than my C:/ drive?

tou want cubase on the system drive and the recorded dat goes to the exgernal... dont suppose you have 2 fw ports available?? usb drives can have through put issuses...

No - not on the notebook, but the Alesis DOES have a spare firewire port. Should I plug it in there instead? The external drive only has a type B USB port out.
