Cubase Essential 4 Busses?

I'm looking at the feature comparison chart on Steinberg's site to see what the differences are between the three current releases of Cubase 4 are. Most of it is pretty self explanatory, but Essential 4 doesn't have the ability to record from busses, while the other two versions do. From what I've seen in Cubase SX3, you have to set up the busses for each of your inputs, so if you can't record from the busses, then does that mean you can't assign your inputs as you need them? I'm a bit confused as to what it all means!
