Correct Setup plugging guitar to PC

Hi, im new to recording and i thought id give it a try. Im trying to record my guitars. I have an emu 0404 soundcard. The question i have is how do i correctly setup? i have very limited equipment and not using the micing technique but connecting directly. Heres how i have it now:

guitar->digitech gnx3->soundcard

Is it ok if i just plug the processor straight to the soundcard like that? Also, i have another stompbox that i would liek to use. would it be ok if i did :

guitar->stompbox->soundcard?

i also have a tiny practice amp. would it be better if i connected teh processor/stompbox to that before plugging into the soundcard?

are you using the pci or usb 0404?

your guitar puts out a instrument level signal, your stomp box puts out a instrument level signal, and your gnx3 outputs can be set to put out instrument level, line level, or mic level. the pci 0404 accepts line level signals. the usb 0404 accepts instrument level, line level, or mic level signals. it's just a matter of matching signal levels from each output to each input. i hope that makes sense for ya.
