Does anyone know how the copyright laws work when it comes to re-doing a well known
song as an instrumental. For instance if I was to take an old Boston or Supertramp tune and
re-do it with an almost identical instrumental backing track.... then just add guitar in place
of the vocals... what laws would apply to doing that?
Do I need to get permission & pay royalties or can I just do it and only pay royalties if I
make money off the recording myself?
