Cool edit 2 issue

Just downloaded CEP II onto my comp. I imported a drum track into track 1 and then recorded the guitars on track 2.

unfortunately for some reason when it started recording all I hear on track 2 is the original drum track and some guitar in there.

what is going on. I figured its a device issue or a bus issue, but I have no idea how to fix it. I figured Id ask instead of screwing with my settings and doing irreparable damage.

Can anyone help me out, let me know what I have to do.

With CEP, all signal routing is handled external to the DAW, either in your Windows mixer or (if you have a specialist interface) maybe in the software for the interface. This sounds like instead of recording your mic in (or line in if you have a pre amp or mixer) you were probably recording something like "What U Hear" or "Wave Out" or similar.

The fix is simple. Open your audio control panel and set it so the playback is what's coming from the computer and the input is specifically your mic. Exactly how to do this will depend on what version of Windows you're using.
