Converting Soundfonts for use in sampler/sound module?

Okay I have a Yamaha KX88 and I'm looking for a sound module/sampler to use with it.

I have a number of soundfonts in my PC that I really like.

Here's my question... using something like Awave can I convert my soundfonts into a format that could be used by a sound module/sampler for live use?

What kind of module should I be looking for and what about things like memory considerations etc.?

I don't want to get stuck with someone elses proporietry sounds.

I'm a guitarist NOT a keyboard player so any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers ;)

I think that the newer Emu samplers let you load soundfonts directly.

Other samplers, I have no clue...

I haven't tried it, but it would seem that way. However based on the listings below it seems the pricier studio-version supports more of the formats interesting for a musician.

I used to have a Akai X7000. I made my own little samplereditor back then (We're talking MS-DOS here, the commercial ones were real expensive) and I had no problems whatsoever converting from other formats and sending them over midi to the Akai-unit.
