converting 1/4" to xlr on mic

hey,

Someone gave me a bunch of old recording equipment from (I'm guessing) the late 60's/ early 70's. In the bunch was a couple old AKAI mics. It says AKAI M-7 on the front.

I want to remove the old cloth covered 1/4" plug and hook it up to a XLR. Is this possible? Do any of you have any ideas?

Yes, with a inline transformer it could be done. That is basically what is in many dynamic microphones anyway.

A good Jensen transformer will run you about $30, but you DO have to figure out a way to mount it in the mic....:(

Good luck.

check some of these places out...

Hello Junkyardearl,

Check Sweetwater, American Music Supply and others- there
is an inline adapter that your 1/4 " plug goes into and comes
out XLR- some even have the inline transformer aboard. Good
luck with it and happy hunting. If I spot it again I'll send you
a link to check it out.

Peace
