Connect output from Windows 7 Motherboard to Near Field Monitors via Mbox - possible?

I have a Windows 7 machine with built in audio on the motherboard.

I have a Mbox Pro (third generation).

I have Yamaha HS7 near field monitors.

Can I run the audio from my Windows 7 machine through the Mbox Pro to hear the computer's audio (CD, YouTube, any online audio) through my HS7's? The Mbox Pro has a 1/8" AUX input in addition to RCA AUX inputs.

If this can be done do I need ProTools running or just the Mbox Pro powered up?

Thanks.

For my two computers, on the general one, I run a Presonus audio to my stereo and all sounds go through it. On the recording computer, all sound goes from the card through the mixer return, to the monitors. This is a Windows setup and you do not need the DAW to route the sound.

Keeping it simple, your onboard audio and your mbox are both sound cards/audio interfaces.
The may have different ins and outs but they both do the same job. You generally wouldn't run one into the other.

What you would do is install the mbox drivers and select it as windows system audio device.
Plug the monitors into the mbox and go.
Whether you're using protools or not all sounds should come from the mbox to your speakers.

The built in audio should just be ignored. Some disable it. That's up to you.
