So I have two MXL mics, both of which were recently modified and now sounding GREAT. MXL 2003 and 603s. My only problem now seems to be with the preamp I'm using: M-Audio Fast Track Pro. The mics only pick up satisfactory levels if I turn the gain ALL the way up on the preamp. If I don't, the signal is pretty weak. The problem is, turning it all the way up tends to bring out a little noise in the mics, mostly the 603s. Regardless, I feel like the gain issue is something that could and should be resolved. Anybody have any idea why this is happening?
