Computer speaker volume

I do digital recording in 2 ways - 1) directly (audio only acoustic guitar and vocal) into Home Studio software on computer, and 2) on Fostex MR-8 which I then transfer as stereo wav file by USB cable into my computer. The Home Studio software allows me to adjust volume on tracks and, of course, the MR-8 does as well but when I transfer into the computer the MR-8 recording has very low volume -- at least what comes out of the computer speakers. Even with speaker volume turned to the top and the internal wav file audio turned to max, the volume is still very low. Does anyone have some thoughts or suggestions?

What levels are your Home Studio software set at?

Ideally, you want studio monitors anyhow. Your pc speakers are nice for some applications, but for mixing, they are shite.

Try looking at the levels your software is set at. I believe that is the culprit. Another problem might be the levels you are recording at, but I doubt it. Look at your software.
