Quickie here - How is wear and tear of computer/monitor effected if you leave it on all the time vs. turning it on and off after each use?

I think it's best to leave a monitor on at all times. All modern monitors will go into low power mode which is safer than completely turning off.

As far as the computer goes - it's not necessary to leave it running 24/7, but I wouldn't recommend turning it off more than once a day...when you're sure that you're not going to use it again, shut down, otherwise, leave it up.

Different schools of thought on that issue. The "Green" type folks think for energy conservation you should turn off the pc. I, on the other hand, have seen o-scope images of the intial power surges pc's receive when they get turned off. I turn mine off only for maintenance activities.
