Computer fan/ HD noise revisited

I posted a message a while back about the issue of recording in the same room as a rather vociferous (three fans and a hard drive that sound like it's tapping morse code when it's being accessed) DAW.

I did try a Silencer 275 power supply from PC Power and Cooling Inc. I'm disappointed in that device. If it's quieter than my previous fan I can't tell. Anyway there's still the issue of the two processor fans. Sigh...

So I've decided to build an isolation box for the darn thing. Any advice? I did find this site:
http://www.pact.de/silence/index.htm

BUT! I remember seeing a link someone put up a while back of someone who built a computer box for their studio. I looked in the archives and couldn't find it. I hope whoever posted it before will see this message and post it again. (At the time I thought the builder was mad, now I see the light.)

Thanks!

Hi. I'm looking also for a solution to noisy hard drives and fans. I found some info at http://www.mixonline.com (go to "forums", type "CPU" in search area on left hand margin, you'll see 2 posts 1. noisy hard drives and 2. soundproofing cpu's) there seems to be more info in Noisy Hard Drives post...hope it helps

Thanks Paul! I checked it out.

I've decided to build a cabinet for the CPU. It will be mounted to an internal wall. On the other side of the wall is a closet. I'm goin to poke a hole through that wall and install a fan on the far side for ventilation. Then the inside of the cabinet will be sound proofed. This will stop noise and allow for ventilation. The only trick is building an effective bulkhead to get the cables out of the cabinet without creating a noise path. Should be do-able.

Thanks again!
