Compressor to limiter or Vice Versa

Help!! Which one goes first on the Master fader? The Compressor then the limiter, or Vice Versa? I am simply trying to make sure nothing in my song starts clipping while trying to get a decent gain on my overall mix. I am also trying to make my mix somewhat uniform, while allowing it to breathe. Is there a correct way to do this, or are my ears the only judge?

I would always limit after the compression although I rarely use a limiter these days. The limiter will do nothing until the threshold has passed so you could set it just below saturation point and it shouldn't come into play. Compress all you like then, just compress threshold just before the limiter...
