compression stages?

i recently read that one needs at least three
stages of compression for good demos.
what does that mean?
how is it accomplished?
are there standard protocols regarding
compression for different phases of the
recording process?
 
Thats crap, music isn't a process of procedures it's a feeling, a mood; it dosn't matter how you achive what you want, its when you achive it that counts.
There are no rules for good music otherwise it all would sound the same.
