Compression & Pre's

Well, I'm thinking of getting a good pre-amp & compressor.

I'm not that knowledgable in this arena but here's my current setup.

SOURCES:
My voice (little gravely & lower)

My Taylor 314ce (some fingerpicking & some strumming, not much lead work)

Some Bass parts DI thru my Fender BXR 200 amp

My equipment:
Rhode NT1A for most everything I record
Sennheiser e835 for some vocals & live use mainly
Behringer DI for my taylor
Behringer 602A Mixer that everything hits before going to my PC

Audiophile 2496 in my PC

Sonar 2.0 XL is my sequencer


Sooooo..... With all that said (ask more if you need to know) What would you reccomend for a good external Pre & some compression? I've seen units that do both but don't know anything about them.

Obviously my gear is not that nice except my Rhode NT1A which isn't even that great so I don't need perfection here but I don't want junk either.

Also, I'm wondering if a pre-amp would serve as a DI so I could set aside my behringer DI for live use only.

Last, but not least... I like those 2 input Pre's so I don't have to do much swapping arund & can run both my Mic & a line from the guitar @ once.

Ideas?

The Really Nice Preamp (RNP) from FMR, paired with their Really Nice Compressor. 2 channels, can't be beat for the price. Get 'em from www.atlasproaudio.com or www.mercenary.com .
