Maybe this is a bit OT, but do you generally use compression when you're tracking a vocalist?
Personally, I choose not to...unless I get a real amateur singer. Just curious.
Also, I'm getting really nice results on a rough but powerfully voiced, gravelly kinda singer just lately using a stage condenser mic ( An Audio Technica AE5400 ). It works better for him than the ADK Vienna, Rode NT1000 and even a U87 that I tried. Funny, eh?
