comparing guitar tones

I was starting to feel good about my tone until I heard a track from some guy with similar gear -- now mine sounds very 'direct' (super crispy high end).

So anyone wanna take a listen and give me some tips (I'm guessing EQ-wise) on how to keep mine from sounding so crispy?

We're both using EZ Drummer and he's using a POD XT while I've got a BOSS GT-8 (comparable gear, price and feature-wise) -- though you'd never know by the differences in our tones, mixes, programming, etc...
