Compansion with plug-ins

I'm interested in trying some compansion with my plug-ins in Magix, but I'm not sure if I have the right settings. First of all, will compansion work if the compression and expansion are processed simultaneously as plug-ins. Also, what are some good settings for this. I'm looking to apply it to an already mixed song to get some background noise out and perhaps tighten up the mix a bit, but I would also like to experiment with it on hissy vocal tracks.

Just make sure the expander comes BEFORE the compressor.

always use a gated gate with compansion, just incase.
