hey people, is it possible to put a coil tap switch on any humbucker? & ya know how a humbucker is just like two single coils (isnt it?), does it matter which "side" of the humbucker you do it to?
oh crap i gotta run to school. later

Nope. Not possible on all humbuckers. Some of them are 'hardwired'... They just have 2 cables coming from them instead of 4.

What do you mean with "side of the humbucker"? Look for 'guitar wiring' in a search engine. That will give you some schematics and diagrams. If you don't get the diagrams, get someone else to wire your guitar...

There's more than just coil tapping. Series/parallel, phase things... Quite complex...

Many newer buckers are prewired for the coil tap.Check with the mfg. for details.Or just look for 4 wires instead of two.
"Side" means phase in this context and even two-wire buckers will have to wired in phase to be used together (unless you dig that "thin" sound.Add all those possibilities up,single coil, humbucker,in phase and out of phase. That's a lot for just one guitar and a couple switches!

Not true Roel, ALL humbuckers have four wires... they need to, its just that they are wired like so:

+ ----[][][][][][]--|
- -----[][][][][][]--|

That is supposed to show the pos running into the pickup, than the neg from the other side connected to the pos of the other coil with the neg of the second coil going to ground.

Any humbucker with only two wires will be wired like that, all you need to do is pull the tape off from around it, snip the wire connecting the two coils, and run leads back to the electronics cavity.
