Click Latency?

Does anyone have any suggestions for recording along to the Metronome in Cubase 5.1 VST32?

Here's what happens:

I set the click up to any tempo, and I give it 2 bars of "count-in", or whatever. Then I play on the first beat of when it starts to record.

The thing is, it comes through my headphones late, and it confuses the hell out of me. But when I play back the track, it syncs up perfectly to the click (until I get to the place where the latency messed me up, of course).

Is there any way to make what I'm playing the same thing as what I hear through my headphones?

My setup is:

AMD AthlonXP 1800+
512mb DDR Ram
Win2000 Pro
Mackie 16-channel mixer hooked into an Audiophile Soundcard

you need to adjusy the latency...go to help and type in latency it will tell you how to do it..usually you have to adjust the buffers in under the audio settings try going up or down till you get it right ...i use sx and i have it set to 512.. the lowest you poss can
