Chambering a body

I have a project guitar and I was thinking about creating some chambers in the body. The body is Basswood, would this lend itself to chambers well, or is Mahogany prefered? The guitar has a large pickguard and I plan chamber out areas under the pickguard and cut some fancy f-holes in the pickguard.

How does chambering affect the sound? I have never played a guitar with a chambered body. Does it give you more of an acoustic sound?

i don't think that what you're describing is 'chambering'.

it sounds more like 'making cavities in the top'.

Possibly, but once covered with a pickguard which I make from wood, does that not form a chamber??
