CD Writers

Which cd writer should I buy for my pc? Internal, external? I want to create my own backing track cds with cubase but I would also like to use the cd writer for data backup! Slinky

Unless you need portability for the CD burner, I'd go internal - much less money.

Lots of good models around. The plextors seem to get the best recommendation. I've used panasonic, sony's and mitsumi's with no problems. I use to recommend Yamaha but they seem to be putting out a few questionable products these days. I've run into a few bad drives lately, both internal and external models. Mechanical problems.

For what it's worth, Maximum PC mag did their semi-anual survay of CDRs recently and they recomend the Plextor or TDK Velo as the two best IDE internal CDRs. I have the TDK 12x (they are both up to 16x now) and it works great.
