i've got a burner and a cd drive!!
My cd drive although checks out to fully recognisable and fully functioning with no troubles/conflicts etc has stopped functioning..

it stopped all of a sudden after doing some cd copies.
running 98se..
i checked /unchecked all dma ,auto insert etc etc ,changed drive letters etc.. but no luck .
I have partitions and it has stopped working in both, even though i only burn on one partition..
i've done a net search but have come up with nothing

You say it's not working.

In what way is it not working:

-doesn't read
-doesn't exist in 'my computer'
-when you put a CD in what does it do? Does it try to spin up, is it macking any unusual mechanical noises?

More Details.

doesn't read!!
no unusaul noises.as far as windows is concerned it is all working ok.:(
quite simply is just won't read at all.
says(when burning) drive not ready or medium not present
something like that.
it checked out ok in boot description:confused:

Clean the drive optics.

You could try a commercial lens cleaner but I'm not sure how well that would do.

Does the light come up when you try accessing the drive, and stay on and keep whirring? If it does, it's likely dirty optics.

If not, well, you might have a loose IDE connector. Or the drive might be dead.
