Capstan belt keeps slipping (Fostex R8)

Here's the short of it:
The belt keeps slipping off when I turn on the machine (Fostex R8). But in a matter of seconds, it slips back on and carry's on as usual.
My best guess is there is not enough traction.

Here's the longer story:
Last week my tape machine wouldn't play at all; the belt completely fell off.
So I opened the back of the R8, undid all the screws and stuff,
and noticed that the pulley that holds the belt has a hairline crack!
Then I epoxied it to the shaft, everything went great.
I put the belt back on the newly fixed pulley and started her up.
And then it started to happen:
Whenever the machine turns on, and the motor starts, the belt slips off, then in 1 second or less, it slips back on and works perfectly fine afterwards.
Should I be worried?
What can I do?

Any input would be appreciated

Hi,
This is pretty common with the r8s. Is the pulley still moving on the shaft, or did the epoxy take?
Usually it's the movement in the pulley that causes the problems.

If not, there's always the chance you could do with a new belt anyway, or the possibility that you epoxied the shaft slightly out of place.
You mentioned a crack. Did you repair it? Is the contact surface smooth? That'd be worth a check.

If you're convinced it's in the right place and smooth, but the initial torque is throwing the belt, I'd get a new belt. :)

Thanks for the response. I'll definitely give it a second look.
Regarding getting a new belt, how would I go about doing that?
Could I possibly flip the belt so the outside will be touching the pulley?

If you need a new belt, it'll be because the old one has stretched.
If the old one has stretched it's bigger than it should be and, therefore, more likely to slip off.

The r8 is a common enough model. Hit up ebay and see what you come up with. ;)

You need a new belt. My A2 did the same thing but when I replaced it. it works like new.
