cakewalk vs. cubase vst vs. vegas pro

hey all, need some help.
i am looking at buying a software-based recording system. I am looking to be able to record everything from full bands (16-24 tracks) to my own projects with samples and loops. i need EQ and Comp on all channels and a couple effects plug-ins. i could also use something that is easy to move around in and set up initally. i am used to analog boards and DA-88s, very tactile... so point-and-click has me a little nervous. what would you recommend? Cubase? Cakewalk (version #)? Vegas Pro? thanks

The main difference here is that cakewalk and ubase both handle midi whereas vegas doesn't - are you going to need midi?? If so then its anyones choice between cubase and cakewalk - I noticed that there is now a cubase VST Version 5 available for trial download at steinberg.

Know of Any bootleg copies?

John,

Do you know where i could get a CD-R of Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 or Cubase VST? I did a trade with someone a free years back for ACID and SOund Forge on CD-r and that worked out wonderfully.

just wondering
