Cakewalk/SawPro- Realtime submixes for effects?

Hey y'all, while I'm stuck here in the software mixing world (and in cooledit :( ) I'm considering working w/ Cake or SawPro for mixing my final tracks w/reatime effects, etc. I'm wondering if these programs allow you to create realtime submixes to send to an effect?

From what I've seen of Saw, you can put the same effect on individual tracks, but it doesn't seem like it'd be the same as using the sends on a real mixer and going through the effect only *once*. Wouldn't all that individual track processing be counterproductive or come out sounding muddier?
