CAD e300 II...a step up from AT3035?

Caotico

for all the right reasons
I currently have an AT3035, and I'm considering the package being sold on musician's friend which comes with the e100 (II) and the e300 (II) with shock mounts and cases (according to tech support) for $399. I've read all the posts I can find on these mics, but few people with hands on experience withe the new e300 have posted. I'm wondering if this would be a step up from my AT3035 for vocals and if it would be worth buying until I can afford something in the $600 plus range. I'm also wondering about the battery situation, I know it can run without phantom power with the batteries for a time, but can it run without batteries at all? Are the batteries a pain? Anyone with experience with this package, please let me know. Will the e300 sound better than the AT3035? Are there other mics in the price range that beat the e300 and have multiple patterns?
