My friends were going to buy a SM57 knock-offs for 45€ a piece, but they just heard that it has been discontinued. Now they need a cheap mic for mostly guitar amps.
Local CAD distributor has both (discontinued) CAD 90s and CAD 88s in sale for 70€ a piece. I have a CAD90, and it has been a marvellous reference when doing mic tests with guitar amps and even drums. What I'd like to hear is if there is a big difference between CAD90 and CAD88.
Also, if the real SM57 would be out of the question, what would you replace it with? Budget being, say, maximum of 65€ / $70. Mic'ing mostly guitar amps. There are ridiculously cheap knock-offs at Thomann.de, not pro mics, ofcourse, but could be good enough for low budget.
