Building your own pedals/pedalboard

Hey,

do you guys think it would be a good idea if I tried to build some pedals myself? I'm studdying applied physics, so I do have some knowledge over electronics etc, so do you think I could get a decent sound out of my own pedals? Anyone can find schematics etc, so maybe I could try it out? What do you think?
 
www.tonepad.com has some pretty cool stuff, I just ordered some stuff to give this a try as well, haven't started yet though.
