I'd like to build my own studio monitors for fun and profit (well, maybe not profit lol). Is there any good reference on the Web or some good books about it?
Thanks ;-) I'm doing this in conjunction with an electrical engineer (which will become my brother in law next friday har har). He knows how to build monitors, but I don't and I look stupid Anyway I'll let you know how this turns out.
The two books I, and many others, most highly recommend for someone starting out are "The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook" by Vance Dickason and "Testing Loudspeakers" by Joseph D'Appolito. You can order them directly from the publisher here. http://www.audioxpress.com/bksprods/bookindexl.htm.
And don't be intimidated by your soon to be brother in law. EE's may know a lot about filter design and such, but they often know jack sh*t about acoustics, mechanics and material science. Study these recourses carefully and maybe you'll teach him a thing or two.
Hope this helps.

PS - Notice the slight distain in my comments about EE's? Those of us studying in the physics department learned the unwritten custom that engineering students are to be held as a slightly lower life form. Most of us eat our words because we usually wind up finding jobs with "Engineer" in the titles. Like me.
