Blue Bear Sound Update

Thanks guys!

...and thanks for getting that up there, John!

At least it's starting to look like something now - but I'm at the point where it's like "...just get it done...!!!"!
(actually - I was at that point 3 weeks ago!) ;)

But I'm very pleased with how it's turning out, so far.... lighting should be finished on Saturday, I hope... and it looks like I may have final pics of it by next weekend...!

Looking great bruce. Are you going to be treating those tracking rooms? A lot of 'bear' wood in there  :D
Tex... they ARE treated! Those are John Sayers-designed Slot Resonators!

Actually, the entire studio is completely John's design... I commissioned him for it...

There are 2 tracking rooms - one dark and one bright, and a vocal booth with sound characteristics somewhere in between the tracking rooms. What's not up yet is the ceiling treatment in the booth, dark-room and the control room.

I very pleased with the sound of the tracking rooms - very flexible sonics!

Sweet. As I look again I see it. Is that blue cloth behind the entire resonator?

If you don't mind me asking what kind of square footage do you have and what were your construction costs? Is that a new building or a remodel? If you've already explained all this somewhere just let me know.

Bruce - I've looked into the DMXR100 before too.
Very sweet machine!
WAY out of the budget for this year, but maybe somewhere down the line...

Aww, Hell, I don't even have any doors yet!!
They've been ordered though.:p

Yes... exactly right!

Square footage is about 750 or so... it is residential so I guess you'd count it as a remodel.... construction costs are around the $65K mark, including the design. I had to tone down the spec slightly from the original design due to costs - the cadillac version was well into the $90K range before the builder simply stopped trying to estimate!

Same here (out of budget this year), but I think that will be the next serious upgrade - maybe next year, after I recoup some of the construction costs!

Well, I think that you and John did a remarkable job in the layout. It looks way bigger than 750 sqft. If my wife lets me have the other 1/2 of the garage for a live room, I would be 540 sqft as a total. Sure is nice to be able to walk down a few steps and into the cave. So Bruce how much natural light do you have...? I blocked out light everywhere so I can have pitch black if needed...well except fo the lava lamp;)

I never estimated my costs... ? More than 10 grand in just contruction materials. Plus I got free help on the electrical stuff. Is there a theme behind the decor?

There's a window in the Utility/furnace room and a window in Studio A, so if I open up doors/windows I'll get some natural light, otherwise, they all can be sealed-off to go with pitch dark! The design is extremely flexible.

All the studio/control room doors have a thermal window cutout too...

I did recalc the footage - it's actually 850, including the studio storage but not including the Utility room.

Is there a theme behind the decor?
It's a mild rip-off on Joe Egan's Control Room color scheme, but following John's design/layout....!

There'll be new pics of the completed facility shortly (minus gear!).... the contractor's on his last day (so he says!)........

Before you drop that kind of cash -- you might want to check out the Yamaha DM2000. I can't find the links offhand, but I've seen some side by side shootouts where the folks have preferred the Yamaha. Don't get me wrong - the Sony is sweet... but for that much money, be sure you're getting the best you can!
