Best editor under $300.

Theres no best. There are a bunch of editors that excel at dif things.

If I had to do it all over again, though,,,,,,,,,Id still choose cool edit.

Wavelab is good but I still can't get away from SoundForge5 from Sonic Foundry. The price is right, it's the most intuative to use and good support.

I use Cool Edit Pro and way dig it but it's the only editing software I'm very familiar with. Cool Edit Pro is coming out with a new version any minute though so I'd wait a day or two if it's not already out.

i have all 3...
#1 wavelab
#2 Cep 1.2
#3 Soundforge

just as the list goes.cep1.2 actually has a few small extra things over wavelab, but over all...gotta use wavelab

can any of them edit in real time?

does anyone have any opinions on T-racks or Ozone Izotope?

The reason for these questions is that I'm in the process of upgrading my home studio, so any info added will be helpful.

Cool Edit 1.2 doesn't do real time effects, but the new version (which hasn't yet been released) does.

I haven't heard one criticism of izotope ozone. Not one. Lots and lots of praise. Good manual too.
