I have available to me a Berhinger ADA8000. I am looking to use it as a recording interface with either Abelton or Cubase LE. Is that doable? I am assuming i need a interface/soundcard with ADAT i/o. Is that correct. Is that all I need or am I missing something here?

Yes, it should work. I used to use ADAT from a Yamaha digital mixer into my PC into my old desktop via a Frontier Design "Dakota" card and it worked fine. With only a single ADA8000, you should be able to sync your Wordclock to the ADAT input but this means you need to feed an ADAT source to it even if only recording. If you get more ADA8000s, you'll have to think about distributing Wordclock via the BNC inputs.

Now, the downside. I use up to four ADA8000s for input sources when doing live mixing and they work well. However, they can be pretty noisy, particularly when you have to crank the gain control up past about the 3/4 mark. This is acceptable for live but would get annoying rather quickly in a studio situation.
