belt keeps falling off on 4-track

I believe its called the capstan belt. It connects the motor to tape drive. Its an old vestax 4-track. Very few around. I replaced the old belt recently, which got the thing functioning, but now every few minutes, after ffowarding rewinding or stopping, the belt slips off. It looks as though thebelt is slightly un-aligned with the smooth silver metal wheel, most likely causing my problems. Any idea how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my TSR8, but after turning the pulley a few times by hand, the belt would usually straighten out. It could be that part of the capstan assembly is loose and thats why it keeps throwing the belt. Im no expert though- try the analog only forum. In this forum, the most common advice you'll get is "go digital" ;)

I appreciate the help. And I think I might be going digital anyway, with all the used $150 fostex MR-8s floating around the web.
