bass recording improvement: upgrade pickup or get bass DI?

Hi guys,

I would like to improve my bass recording.

My current setup, cheapo P-bass -> VC3Q

I think my bass sound is decent, but lack that big solid bottom.

I have limited budget, so if I can only choose one, should I :

1. Get a nice pickup: ie Seymour Duncan Quarter pounder

2. Get Sansamp Bass Driver DI

What would you do? share you experience.

I recorded this direct into my US122, without a DI box or anything else, using a Carvin Bolt bass.

Sansamp. The most incredible DI box I've ever heard.

That thing will make any bass sound good. Sounds fantastic direct too.
