Audition problem?

This is probably very petty, but i thought i'd ask the experts on here.
You'll have to forgive me for being a "noob", so to speak.
But when using Vari-Audio, the audition function doesn't appear to be working, it shows that it is playing but no sound is made. Any suggestions?

I can't believe I'm going to be giving potential help - I'm the least likely to know what I'm talking about.

When I was setting up cubase I had the same problem. .... I think it was resolved between my computer sound settings, and the external mixer if I remember right.
