THIS IS PROBABLY BASIC INFO FOR MOST BUT IT HELPED ME TREMENDOUSLY WHEN SETTING UP MY NEW AUDIOPHILE 2496 IN CAKEWALK HS02; IT RESOLVES THE WHOLE LATENCY ISSUE IN GENERAL, AT LEAST SO IT DOESN'T DISTRACT YOU WHILE RECORDING OVERDUBS.

A more practical way of Direct Monitoring involves using our Monitor Mixer feature. This allows you to hear and adjust the monitoring signal of what you are recording and what the computer is playing back (previously recorded tracks). When you choose to monitor the Delta via the Monitor Mixer, what you're doing is patching the output of the Monitor Mixer's controls (from the previous tab) to the ports of Outputs 1 and 2 on your Delta Box. This is ideal for using multi-track recording programs such as Cakewalk, Vegas, Cool Edit Pro, and Acid. It is also an option for Software Monitoring based programs running on computers with limited processing power.
To enable Direct Monitoring of previously recorded tracks as well as tracks you are going to record, go to the Patchbay Router first and select MONITOR MIXER under H/W OUT 1/2. This sends all the ins (things plugged into the Delta) and outs (sounds already recorded on your computer) to Outputs 1 and 2 on your Delta box.
Next, click on the MONITOR MIXER tab and turn up ALL the faders to 0 as well as UNMUTE them. Note the left/right scrollbar at the bottom allows you to get to other faders not displayed within the window (66 and 1010 only). If you plugged in a mono signal, such as a mic, and wish to hear it out of both Left and Right speakers, pan the channel to the center.

NOTE: This is not an actual mixer. This is a Monitor Mixer. It does not change the level of the signal you are sending to and from your hard drive---only your monitoring levels. If you are sending a hot signal to your hard drive and you're getting clipping (sharp distortion), you cannot change that by pulling the faders on this mixer down. You must adjust the signal at the source (your keyboard, amp, etc.).
