Audio Interfaces

I'd say the focusrite stuff is the best on that list. I wouldn't bother with USB interfaces for the obvious reasons. Even if you're only recording a few tracks. I like a stable and consistent connection without bursts. The firestudio I would stay away from as well as I believe it's a Dice II unit, which is a very rocky chipset.

I think "best" is subjective on that list (you'll get as many opinions as there are options), but I can state that a FireWire-based option, such as the Focusrite or Presonus, will generally perform a little better than USB. I'm assuming that since you listed both options on your list, you have a computer with both FireWire and USB ports.

I am a proponent of Focusrite hardware. I have used Focusrite preamps for years and have always been very pleased with their performance. The Saffire units are well-constructed and should serve you well. There are also many on this board who like the Presonus units, however I have not owned or operated one.
