Is it feasible to route a mixer through an audio interface for recording? Or is it better to have the interface have enough pre-amp inputs all together?

Are you talking about subgrouping some mics into one input via mixer due to lack of space? If so, yes, it's possible...but you have to play around with it a LOT. There's not much you can do balance-wise with that multi-mic track once it's laid down!

Remember that ganging up inputs and feeding them into one input (or pair of stereo inputs) on an interface means you have to treat them as one in your DAW, you can't adjust the relative levels any longer.

that's why I got this TASCAM M-164UF, only 2 1/2 years ago, and sadly discontinued. It's a mixer and 16 channel interface fro $500
