Apex

Just picked up an Apex 220, similar design as the Behringer ECM8000 ("measurement mic":/)

This costs less then half(!) of the ECM8000 and I'm surprised to report my initial listening tests are very positive, it sounds really quite good. I'm going to use this mic as fodder for modding. At $44 CDN, WTF.

I want to disassemble to take pictures and post them, but I'm unsure how to do this, the board won't slip out. Any help for a modder wannabe?

Post some photos of any attempts to take it apart and I'll help if I can.

I doubt you'll be able to mod it at all though. These guys usually use a $2 Panasonic capsule and a totally basic circuit. You can't casually improve on such simplicity unless you completely redesign, usually. If you're lucky, you might have the opportunity to upgrade a cap or two.

Ok here it is, the board is attached and i can't pull it out any further (I didn't force it)

It looks like there may be a seam in the cone where mic shrinks in diameter, but I don't want to put pliers to it (yet). How do I get this sucker apart?
