Anyone have experience with Bock microphones?

I keep seeing these on ebay Australia and they are pretty damn cheap, and as i'm currently scraping together a relatively basic (read: cheap) studio, these caught my attention. I'm guessing they're nothing special and quite possibly not worth spending any time and money on, but you never know... I'm particularly interested in the kick drum mics.

Here's the website:

Anyone have any eperience/knowledge on these?

Cheers!! :)

some lovely english on that site...

"During these years, we have sustained in developing vigorously and created outstanding and flourishing achievements."

they insist their quality is foremost in the industry too, so there ya go!! :)

Never heard of them. Several of their mics appear to be blatant Shure copycats.

I clicked on the SM professional series and the first mic looks just like an SM58.
They also have a kick mic that looks like a Beta52.
Most of the other mics are inspired but some better known brands.

Oh well.

Their studio condensers also look strikingly like the KSM series (27, 32, 44).

And if you don't like their "replica" mics, you can buy their fuel conditioner for "all automobiles"... ;)

Yeah, they do seem to be rather heavily Shure influenced... but has anyone actually tried one? I'd be interested to know how they fare...

Lets face it, they've got a link on their web page that says "save fuel make money". I'm thinking no to myself right now.

If you can't find anyone who's used them, I would just spend the money on a well-known brand that makes good mics.

They have samples on their website, but they didn't sound that good to me, but the one I listened to also had a guitar in there and maybe it was the way they mixed it. The drums are too far in the background which seems odd since they're supposed to be showing how the drum mic kit sounds.

Hi...
I bought 5 (BK-58's) for about 100 bucks (AUS)....
At that price I figured that I didn't have much to lose!!!
I've used them on my friends drum kit, and as long as they're positioned correctly (as with any mic, cheap or expensive), I've got/had no complaints....they sound fine.
FYI...there is no switch gear with these mics, and they come without cables, unless you specify them. (ie.more $).
I've pulled them apart and they appear well built. they claim to have a similar FR to the Shure SM58's....but I can't pick it in practise.

I've heard that the 'capsules' are made in the same factory as some well known brands (the factory apparantly being SUPERLUX(?))....again, I'm just don't know, in practise.

Yep...very little money, well spent.....I reckon!!

As for that 'fuel' advertisement.......mmmmmmm.....not in my Skyline!!

All the best,
Regards,
Superpit.

these mics are the best for their price that I have used.

The vocal mic 5.8a great live and I also have the drum pack. They are different internally to shure mics (when you open both and look) but yeah they do look similar. You'd have a tough time telling them apart as far as audio goes.

Cheers.

Howdy.

For my first post in here I would like to add that I purchased a Bock BK 1100-C mic for my first serious attempts at home recording. It was a great price and although the mic looked the part and had reasonable specs, I was not fully satisfied with it's performance. It's now about 8 months old and is already giving me low level static issues. I have tested my set up from top to bottom through process of illimination and it is definetly the mic.

Prior to this I had the Bock copy of the Shure SM58 and it actually gave a much richer sound. Seeing as Bock mics are becoming scarce on eBay now I am kinda figuring maybe they are not doing so well?

I believe they only sell online judging from their Australian website. I cant view that URL at the top I get this message

If not, I'm pretty sure these are what used to be Soundelux.

Edit: Damnit, I just noticed this is an old thread that some newbie resurrected. Damn newbies!!!

That there will be no confusions, those have nothing to do with David Bock's excellent high end mics:

http://www.bockaudiodesigns.com/

I emailed David about it.

Best, M

Yup! These have nothing to do with David Bock's creations, formerly Soundelux microphones, now Bock Audio.

Do not be confused. David's mics and design and materials are far superior.

These are just rebadges Superlux/Avlex mics. Different mics entirely.

PhilGood,

So the Bock Audio, formerly Soundelux, are high end maybe even boutique microphones? And Bock Microphones from Australia are Superlux/Avlex mics rebranded?

Bock Audio microphones run in the thousands. Definitely not budget.

Bock and Superlux mics are budget priced.

http://avlex.com

Funny how they went form one confusing pair of names (Soundelux vs. Superlux) to an even more confusing pair of names. (Bock Audio vs. Bock)

If the Bock microphones are just rebranded Superlux/Avlex mics they don't suck. Some Superlux mics are better than others but generally speaking they are well built usable budget microphones.

Here's the SGM 1100C.

To my eye exactly like my beloved Superlux CM-H8c.

http://avlex.com/superlux/studio.html

The Bock BK-5.8a looks like and specs close to the Superlux PRO-248 vocal mic.

The drum kits are different. First Superlux has two lines of drum kits, the DRK-F series and the DRK-B5C2MKII DRUM PACK. The Bock kit has many mics that look similar to some of these mics but there is no exact match kit for kit.

If anyone has more info on the Superlux lineage of Bock microphones please post it for us.

As I pointed out in my fifty dollar mic thread a rose by any other name will smell as sweet.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

The Superlux/Avlex/Bock mics are definitely good mics for the money. I have a few and they don't suck. Very good workhorse mics.

I have refurbished/rebuilt/worked on quite a few Soundelux mics, and can tell you they are leagues ahead in sound! You will never get a "Superlux" that sounds anything like a "Soundelux".

Just wanted to make the distinction. David Bock vs. Chinese mics = David wins on all counts.

SOOO much stuff is made in China these days that I do not dismiss anything until I try it when it comes to this stuff. My Joe Meek Preamp is made in China and I love it, same with the Rokit Monitors. If you A/B these mics with their counterparts (done it with the beta58 and bock5.8a) the only difference so far is the price ;) It's lasted almost 12 months now and I've had no problems.

Many apologies........

I am terribly sorry...........I guess I just didn't know I was in such esteemed company that a lowly newbie like me should have begged and grovelled to get permission to use this forum in the first place.

Oh BTW...........please note the sarcasm in my sincerest of apologies.

HA!:)
