Any low-mid priced tube pres with enough gain for ribbon mics?

The Brick and the new EH 12AY7 seem to get high marks around here, but it sounds like they don't have so much gain.

Any ideas?

Unless you are recording whispering vocals with a 44, the 12AY7 will do it just fine. The amazing thing about that pre is that you can turn it ALL the way up, and it is dead quiet in my experience.

I have recorded vocals with an RCA BK5 and that mic, and it worked really well. People dont realize how good this thing is! REALLY!

Anyone know how a Groove Tubes Brick would fare with a ribbon mic?
