Another cheapskate query.

I have 4 or 5 mics, all cheapies (Peavey PV1), and the best one being an SM58. I'd like to know what kind of (cheap) mic to use to record a few people jamming all at once (one mic), in the center of the room. Does the Shack make a mic that would suffice? What do you call such a beast? Omnidirectional? Ambient???

Check out the mp3 mixing clinic...someone put up a clip of something recorded with 2 Behringer ECM8000's ($70/pr)......

Yes, you're looking for an omnidirectional mic but please, not at Radio Shack. Something like a Crown PZM (preasure zone microphone) would work nicely.

If SOUND quality isnt really Important you Can get a boundery mic from radio shack for 39.00. The Behringer deal is alot better Ive got mine on order.
