... and here, we, go! Pro Tools 8

So I'm fairly blown away. A bunch of features I've been waiting for have arrived. Better midi editing, score creation/display, and of course - the cherry on top - brilliant new comp'ing features (strangely reminiscent of Logic 8's no?).

Can't complain really. Not too sure on the new look - however I'm sure it's just a matter of getting used to it! Extra track count with MP 2 is nice, and hopefully the update won't break the bank.

Speaking of updates, I can't seem to find an update to 8? Not that I'd do it straight away - I'll wait a few CS updates so that the first few annoying bugs are out the way. Currently they only offer an update to 7.4 with a free upgrate to 8?

what does everyone else think?

I can't wait and now everyone can stop complaining about 32 tracks cause u can get it up to like 128 or something like that.

looks like 48 standard...and up to 64 extra

everyone will keep complaining though because it's not unlimited like all the other programs.

Must...have...it....

Seriously, this update seems to address every freaking thing I didn't like about PT. I will upgrade for sure although I may hold off until after the first update, just to let the early adopters shake the bugs out.

I just bought Pro tools 7.4 LE, I should be eligible for a free upgrade! I want those new plug-in's mostly I think. I haven't pushed the track count yet. Oh wells, maybe I'll wait for them to sort out the kinks then throw down some bucks for the upgrade.

so many more little things i'm finding out...you can now have 10 inserts on each track!

Really??

I'm just curious. Specifically. When would this be considered an improvement?? Other than of course the Spinal Tap theory that 10 must be better than 5 because it's 5 more. I mean this allows for a compressor, an EQ, a de-esser, another eq, another compressor a third eq and a third compressor and another de-esser a forth eq and I'll top that vocal track off with much needed forth compressor. Yikes that'll cover my bases.

Jeez..how did I get by before 10 inserts were available?????

Seriously though some nice new features in PT 8. Still not the re-write that Digi needs to allow for freeze tracks and less than real time bounces but usable new stuff.

Midi seems to be now MORE than capable and in fact deeper than most will use.

Still Digi's is, sooner or later, gonna have to break that code down and start a new. Obviously it ain't happening yet.

You obviously haven't watched mix it like a record :)

It looks pretty damn sweet lemme tell you ;)

The products on show at AES were only announced - not released. There is no firm release date set at current, though Sweetwater have said that it's being released in November (not sure I'd trust that). Localised pricing should be available already; check your reseller's site. The update will be offered as a downlaod through the Digistore, or as a boxed copy through resellers.

looking on the digisite it doesn't look like compatibility for PT8 has been released.

The 003 still has 7.4.2 listed

002

I can't imagine why the 002 wouldn't be supported on PT8, but I guess we'll have to wait to see.

Oh yeah. I really hope that it IS compatible to the 002. They're dirt cheap these days.
