If you have an audio interface (highly recommended if you don't) you simply need to plug your guitar into the interfaces instrument in via 1/4 to 1/4 TS.
If not (and you have no wish to spend a few hard earned dollars on an interface) you will need an adapter cable to go from 1/4 TS to 1/8 TS on your line in, and purchase a decent direct box (unless your guitar has active electronics).
All in all, I would cough up the $40 for a Behringer UMC22 and just run it in that way (or more $ for better interfaces, if you like). There is a huge advantage from interfaces in being able to use ASIO drivers, which will give you very low latency (delay between you playing a note and your speakers playing it).
Once you hit the $100 mark there are a lot of decent interfaces, which is another topic altogether.
