AMD Compatability

I have seen you guys talking about compatability issues with AMD processors .I am just about to plunge into the home multi track thing and am using a system with an AMD K6/350. Will the new Maxi Studio Isis card and Cakewalk 9 work with my present system, or am I doomed to buying a complete new set up ? Thanks in advance .

Yes, you're fine.

The compatibility issues are with Athlon chipsets. And from what I've heard from a few folks around here actually USING Athlons, there aren't any issues anymore.

Note that any PII level Intel processor will outperform your K6-II processor. That is, the Celeron, PII, or PIII. Keep this in mind if your system starts to choke on effects.

Thanks Slackmaster ,I would love to have a new PIII system but the best my mobo will support is a K62/350 .As long as we are at it
will this work in W95 ? I understand that the best effects work with Direct X7 but that I may not be able to use DX7 in W95 .I think that I have DX6.1 . Any advice will be appreciated .

Heh. First, of course Win95 supports the latest version of DX. DX is MADE for Win95 first and foremost (we'll see how it keeps up in Win2000).

Second, the DX you're thinking of is not the same as the DX Media runtimes. Just download the latest media runtimes (6.0) from: http://microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wuother/directxruntime/default.asp?site=95

Finally, you might have some trouble, on occasion, booting Win95 with that AMD processor. There is a patch for this available from amd. http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/k623d/win95_update_k6.html

Good luck.
