Alternative to TASCAM US 122

I've used the TASCAM US 122 for years for voice recording, but now wish to upgrade to something quieter at max gain.

The US 122 noise floor is unacceptable for commercial voice work.

Some reviews mentioned the Lexicon Lambda Sound Card as having a lower noise floor. (The floor listed on its web site is not accurate, according to reviews.)

Anyone have a recommendation? I don't need anything fancy, just basic voice recording that's quiet.

You could look at buying a good quality mic pre that has a line out and plug that into the line in of the US122. My thinking is that a stand alone pre that has not computer interface would be a better quality pre than a pre with the computer interface for the same price. The US122 should work fine as a line in and out for the computer as long as a good quality pre was at the front end.

There is endless discussion on this forum about preamps. It all depends on the budget. Also what mic are you using? The actual gain of the mic also has a bearing on the noise floor.

Alan.
